The main Khatu Shyam Ji event commemorated in Khatushyamji is the Mela of Falgun. It happens in February/March during Falguna, from Asthami to Dwadashi (the eighth and twelfth days), which is exactly five days prior to the widely celebrated Indian holiday Holi. At that time, thousands of Shyam Ji devotees visit the Khatu shyam mandir and prostrate themselves before their god, requesting blessings. The Bhajans and prayers of the Bhakts fill Khatu Dham during the Falgun Mela.
Khatu Shyam Ji Falgun Festival
Falgun Mela is marked with a unique Nishan yatra. This holy journey commences at the Ringus, which is 19 km from the Khatu Dham. Followers of Shyam Ji approach the temple during this Yatra while holding a flag, known as a Nishan. They even offered prayers and bhajans in honor of Baba Khatu shyam ji. At special bhajan sandhya gatherings, renowned bhajan singers come and spiritually delight the devotees. Baba’s followers get lost in bhakti as they dance to the DJ. A few devotees playfully interact with gulal and submit to the entrancing prayers of Shyam Ji baba. On the final day of Mela, special kheer and churma parathas are prepared for Baba and given to all the devotees.
Khatu shyamji Bhakts come to this tiny village during the mela from all over the world. About five lakh Bhakts came to the mela to ask for baba Shyamji’s blessings. This is the reason for the tight security in the hamlet and the construction of a bamboo fence in front of the temple, which is ten kilometers away, so that people can kneel before the statue of Shyam ji.
The number of devotees attending the Satrangi Falgun Mela has been increasing every. The 2011 Mela drew a whopping 15 lakh devotees; however, in 2012 and 2013, that number surged to 25 lakhs and 35 lakhs, respectively. The extraordinary charisma and spiritual strength of baba Khatushyamji inspire devotees to take part in this mela.
